Is it necessary for me to purchase firewall hardware?

Hi, I have a dedicated web server, and my host is seeking $85.00 per month for a 36-month Firewall contract (Juniper SRX300 Hardware) Is this truly necessary, or might software do the job just as well, and am I being taken advantage of? What advice do you have for me?
