To increase disc IO performance, you must first understand the IO difficulties and issues that your system faces:
1. Because the read/write head must move to the correct place, HDDs have a delay.
2. Seek time refers to when the hard drive places the head on the correct track.

Check IO speed
To examine the I/O statistics of all the devices, use the iostat command with the -d option. To examine the I/O statistics of all the devices and their partitions, use the iostat command with the -p option. To get comprehensive I/O statistics for all devices, use the iostat command with the -x option.
